Blackford County, Indiana  –  The Blackford County Economic Development Corporation (BCEDC) announced that Warren C. Brown has been selected to be the new Economic Development Executive Director for Blackford County.  Brown will promote the success and growth of existing businesses in Blackford County as well as conduct attraction efforts to bring new projects to the county.  He will begin his new role on November 4.
Brown is currently employed as the Economic Development Director for the City of Alexandria, IN.  He has a proven record of successful projects in economic and community development including housing, retail, industrial and transportation projects.    His previous experience also includes project leadership for information technology giant EDS, project leadership for software development, and retail management in consumer electronics. In addition, Warren is a distinguished veteran of the United States Navy.
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve Blackford County. I plan to leverage the resources that resulted in $23 million worth of new investment in my previous community. While the funding available to rural communities is similar, Blackford County has its own unique set of characteristics. The county’s past and present strengths, as well as challenges, create its story. I look forward to working with residents, businesses, and leaders to develop a data driven plan that will build on Blackford County’s rich heritage and propel its story into the future”, stated Brown when asked to comment on his new opportunity.
Brown replaces Colton Bickel who led BCEDC for two plus years.  Bickel made a significant impact on Blackford County during his tenure – promoting the retention and expansion of business and manufacturing in Blackford County.
Brown’s hiring comes after an extensive search by the BCEDC Board of Directors.  Board President, Dan Borgenheimer said, “We were looking for someone with strong interpersonal and leadership qualities, solid organizational skills, and proven success in economic and community development.  Brown has what we were looking for.”
